Independent Movies Being Shot in Michigan

Here is a look at the independent movie Intent, which is currently filming in Livonia, Michigan. the production came to Michigan over Florida because of the attractive tax incentives the state recently passed.

The new tax incentives not only attract "big name" actors, directors and production but a plethora of smaller indy movies that use thousands of local employees and services. Here is just a sampling of the many independent movies being made in Michigan in the current or near future.

Illinois Ups the Bar On Michigan's Film Incentives

Illinois recently passed a new film incentive tax that directly competes with Michigan's. Illinois' new measure does not expire, leaving the door open for TV series to schedule long productions in their state (such as Prison Break). This is something that Michigan has yet to address and could add more long term consistent employers to Michigan's struggling economy.

The 1998 movie Out Of Sight was recently named by Entertianment Weekly as the sexiest movie ever madeOut Of Sight staring Jennifer Lopez and George Clooney was shot in and around Metro Detroit and is based on Detroit native Elmore (Dutch) Leonard's book by the same name.

Premoted On the Set Of "Demoted"

Local Troy, Michigan mom lands extensive extras role in the new Sean Astin comedy Demoted.  Demoted was shot this past fall around Metro Detroit at a empty Bennigan's restaurant, an unused office building in Dearborn, the Orchard Lake Country Club and a cemetery in Milford.

Killshot To Be Released January 23, 2009?

The silver screen adaption of the Elmore Leonard novel Killshot is set to be released on January 23, 2009. Like most Elmore Leonard novels, Killshot is set in Detroit and the production for the movie was here for several days this past summer (this was also true for 1998's Out Of Sight)

Howell, Michigan Movie Brings Academy Award Winner Adrien Brody To Town

Howell, Michigan Public Schools' Parker Campus is the curent setting for the new $9.5 million independent movie High School.

High School; which is set to release in 2010, stars Academy Award winner Adrien Brody, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Michael Chiklis, and Sean Marquette and Cody Longo.

Rosie O'Donnell Shooting New Movie In Detroit

Last week, Rosie O’Donnell was in Detroit on a scouting mission for her new film, America. In this upcoming Lifetime Original Movie, O'Donnell plays a therapist who helps a teenager caught up in the foster care system.

Gran Torino Trailer

The trailer for Clint Eastwood's last on-screen preformance Gran Torino, is now online. This past summer, Gran Torino was the first major motion picture to be shot in metro Detroit after the recent passage of the recent Michigan film incentives.

Look for much Academy Award hype this year as Gran Tarino hit's theaters in time for the this year's holiday movie session.
