A Look At Actor Kyle Gallner

The star is rising for actor Kyle Gallner; who made a big impression when he took on the role of the young Bart Allen (a.k.a. The Flash) in Smallville a few years back.   Last year he was on the west side of Michigan in Kalamazoo shooting the upcoming dram Cherry.  The film will not be released until later this year or possibly early next year, so until then you can see his work in such high profile horror flicks as Jennifer’s Body and the upcoming remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Commercial Production Left Out In The Cold

Bill Shea of Crain’s Detroit blogs today about adding commercial production to the Michigan film Incentives.

Ludwig (vice chairman and chief creative officer at Warren-based advertising agency Campbell-Ewald ) said there’s a bloc of Republicans led by Nancy Cassis, R-Novi, that oppose adding commercials and have made no secret of their desire to cap the current legislation, likely at 35 percent (down from the max of 42 percent now). Anything under 35 percent would doom Michigan to returning to its status as an incentive backwater because other states in the film game are at 35 percent already. [read more]

Red Dawn Studio On Verge Of Bankruptcy?

MGM, the studio responsible for the remake of Red Dawn (which is currently shooting in Michigan); may have to sell it’s key assets like James Bond in order to stay afloat.  This news sheds some insight into why the studio is remaking Red Dawn:

This raises a lot of questions, and if you’ve been wondering why MGM is so keen on remaking movies like Robocop and Red Dawn, also provides some answers. Those franchises are ready-made assets that the studio could theoretically get moving fast. Red Dawn wasn’t mobilized quickly to take advantage of any political zeitgeist; it was fast-tracked because United Artists films Lions For Lambs and Valkyrie weren’t earners. Fame opens this weekend, and it is likely going to under-perform, too. [read more]

This is not uncommon.  Last year Village Roadshow; which made Grand Torino, also went bankrupt before the movie hit the silver screen.
