“Real Steal” Production Update

steel the twilight zone Real Steal Production UpdateAs production ramps up for the biggest movie ever to be filmed in Michigan, it looks as though a couple of Lost alumni Evangeline Lilly and Kevin Durand have joined the cast of Real Steal.  Those interested in being a background extra on the film can keep up-to-date with the project’s latest needs by joining the Real Steel Extras Casting Michigan Facebook Group Page.

“Steel” centers on a world where the sport of boxing, believed to be too violent for humans, is done solely by machines.   Hugh Jackman will play a former boxer turned promoter who finds a discarded robot who can’t seem to lose.   The screenplay was initially written by Dan Gilroy with the most recent rewrite being done by John Gatins.

FYI: The somewhat ridiculous sounding plot for this futuristic, android boxing flick was written by none other then Richard Matheson, as the 1956 short story “Steel” which was also an episode of the The Twilight Zone.  Matheson also wrote the 1975 novel Bid Time Return which became the move Somewhere in Time (also filmed in Michigan) and is probably best known for writing the sci-fi classic I Am legend.
