Producers of Gran Torino failed to finance the film and left Time Warner to absorb it’s cost. Gran Torino was shot in Metro Detroit last summer and has been one of the biggest movies made in Michigan since the recent passage of the state’s new film tax incentives that allow productions to recoup close to 40% of their costs.
Gran Torino producers Village Roadshow also left Time Warner hold the bag on three other films; Get Smart, Yes Man, Nights in Rodan.
Clint Eastwood’s Gran Torino makes it’s Michigan debut at the Birmingham 8 Theater. Gran Torino will hit movie screens on Dec. 25 in Detroit, New York and Los Angeles. It will open nationwide on Jan. 9
