The Gun Begins Production In December

50 Cent’s movie company Cheeta Vision Films has inked a deal with Action Jackson Films to produce and finance 3-5 major films a year. The first planned movie is titled The Gun which was written by 50 himself. The movie will star 50 Cent and Val Kilmer (who have both shot a movie in West Michigan in recent months). Shooting will begin next month in Grand Rapids, Michigan with Jesse Terro directing.

50 and Cheetah Vision’s next project after The Gun will be a familiar drama, Jekyll and Hyde which will star Forest Whitaker.

Acclaimed Director Abel Ferrara Will Shoot Two Movies In Michigan

Wesley SnipesThe the fall of 2009 is shaping up to be one of the busiest filming periods in modern Detroit history.  Starting next week there will be four major movies shooting near the city limits; Red Dawn, Highland Park, Vanishing on 7th Street and Game of Death.

Wesley Snipes and acclaimed director Abel Ferrara are reuniting for the first time on the upcoming action-thriller Game of Death since Ferrara’s 1990 cult flick King of New York.  In Game of Death, Snipes stars as politician’s bodyguard who must fend off five of the world’s top assassins. Forrest WhitakerRolling on into early next year, director Abel Ferrare will then be shooting his next movie Jekyll and Hyde in Grand Rapids, Michigan in January. The movie is a modern-day take on the classic horror pic and pegs rapper/actor 50 Cent up with Academy Award Winner Forest Whitaker.

Grand Rapids Scores A-List Stars For Upcoming Films

Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris’s upcoming drama What’s Wrong With Virginia is not the only high profile movie shooting on the west side of Michigan this fall – The Gun; an action movie starring 50 Cent, will lens in November while Sleepless Beauty staring Meg Ryan begins shooting in December [read more].

Then, Oscar Winner Forest Whitaker and 50 Cent will co-star in a modern day remake of Jekyll and Hyde in January with director Abel Ferrara at the helm. Also on the docket, action star Jean-Claude Van Damme is also expect to shoot an new movie in Grand Rapids in 2010 along with the CG leaning movie Tribes of October (staring Robert Duvall, James Caan and Ray Stevenson). Such locations as a former Lear Corp; which is as big as a Warner Brothers Studio backlot, could likely be used as a soundstage for these potential films.

Michigna Production Update – June 11, 2009

The Kim Cattrall movie that shot in Metro Detroit this past winter has changed it’s name form Miss January to Meet Monica Velour.

After recently completing the movie Caught in the Crossfire in Grand Rapids this week, 50 Cent’s production company Cheetah Vision may bring their next project Jekyll and Hyde to Michigan. The movie is set to co-star Acadamey Award winning actor Forest Whittaker.

Mlive is also reporting that the Cinepro Pictures CGI action film Tribes of October; starring Ray Stevenson, Robert Duvall and James Caan; will likely film inside the Grand Rapids convention center DeVos Place in August.

The new Rob Reiner coming of age movie Flipped will be using Ann Arbor schools property for it’s production his summer. In total, the film company is paying the district more than $30,000 for use of several sites and custodial services.

Specs Howard School of Broadcasting is taking on film production with a new training program that pairs the school up with noted full-scale Metro Detroit production studio Grace & Wild.

Oakland University in Rochester Michigan will be adding this fall a major in Cinema Studies and a minor in Graphic Design.
